Orchestra Gold
April 6, 2024
Dinner & drinks at 6pm, show starts at 7:30pm
Behind Oakland-based ensemble Orchestra Gold's original sound is a decade-long story of knowledge, respect and collaboration between Mariam Diakite of Mali and Erich Huffaker of Oakland. Blending the traditions of Mali and American Rock/Funk with a retro feel, OG represents a world of powerful cross-cultural experience. OG offers a kaleidoscope of magical sound deeply rooted in the past while boldly blazing towards the genre-bending future: African Psychedelic Rock. With the January 2023 release of their third album, Medicine, this profoundly spriritual and dance-inducing ensemble continues their pursuit of spreading healing and community through the universal gift of music.
Orchestra Gold will showcase at SXSW in 2023 and has played with legends Ebo Taylor & Mulatu Astatke at the UC Theater in addition to shows at Treefort, Oakland Museum of California, Bandcamp and the Joshua Tree Music Festival.
We are also excited to have the Yosemite High School Art Department joining us! Students were introduced to psychedelic aesthetics by studying the history of rock posters from the 60s and tracing that style back to the Art Nouveau movement. Students were introduced to contemporary artists like Yayoi Kusama, Allison Schulnik, Alex Grey, and Hilma Aft Klimt who deal with concepts of religious aestheticism, mental illness, and the nature of reality in their work. Students of the YHS Arts Department responded to these concepts by creating “Postcards From The Otherside”. Several reproductions of these works will be available at the concert on April 6th. All proceeds will go to the YHS Arts Department.
Tickets for this show are $25 in advance or $30 at the door.
Kids 17 & under are free!
